Ashton ID, 83420
View in Google Maps

Mesa Falls Lodge is located slightly northeast of Ashton ID. To get here enter Ashton from Highway 20. At the intersection of Highway 20 and state road #47 (Mesa Falls Scenic Byway) in Ashton you will travel east approximately 8 miles along SR47. You will see a “Watch for Rock” sign at approximately 8 miles. Take the next left which is a fork in the road. You will leave SR47 and will see signs for “Fisherman’s Drive”. Follow this road about .5 miles and you will cross the Snake River on a narrow bridge. Continue on Fisherman’s Drive for another 1/3 mile. The road will fork and Fisherman’s Drive will continue left, Cherry Butte Drive will be the road on the right**. Take Cherry Butte Drive (you will start to go uphill). 1547 Cherry Butte is the first driveway on your left. If you Google Earth 1547 Cherry Butte Road, Ashton, ID 83420 you will see it pinpointed on the map.

Winter Conditions: 4x4’s & chains are strongly recommended.
** During winter a portion of Fisherman’s Drive will be closed and you will not see the last fork in the road, just continue right up Cherry Butte Road.

If you are leaving Ashton and heading east on Hwy 47 on your way to Mesa Falls Lodge and come to a barrier across the road stating it is closed, there maybe an alternate route depending on the severity of the conditions (actively snowing, blowing snow, etc). If the barrier is down, do not drive past it. It is illegal and even though it appears to be passable it will almost always get far worse as you go. Instead, at the barrier, turn north on 3700 East. Travel 1 mile north on 3700 East (2nd intersection) and turn right (east) at 1400 North. You will travel a little less than 3.5 miles to a stop sign. At the stop sign, turn left (north) on to Hwy 47 and continue on as you normally would to the lodge. Please use caution and good judgement as the only reason that this route will be open will be due to the county crews still actively plowing it. They do not post anything if this road is not passable or if they have stopped plowing. You will simply have to judge for yourself if you will be able to get through. If you are at the lodge and are leaving go out to Highway 47 as normal and head south toward Ashton. The bypass turn at 1400 North is at the junction with the road that goes to Cave Falls, which is marked. Turn west on 1400 North and go 3.5 miles to 3700 East then turn south 1 mile and turn right (west) on Highway 47.
